Ongelooflijk maar waar: De Engelse profs kunnen niet tegen de druk, zegt hun coach FABIO CAPELLO na de genante 0-0 van Engeland tegen Algerije. Hij maakt zoals elke coach nooit een fout, maar dat terzijde. Volgens Capello bezwijken zijn sterren onder de druk van het spelen op een WK. Hij heeft het over het spelers die in finales van de Champions Leaugue hebben gespeeld, als Terry, Lampard, Gerrard en Roony. Zou het misschien aan hem kunnen liggen, met drie uur voor de wedstrijd zeggen wie in het doel staat, met Rooney achter in plaats van in de spits, met wellicht allemaal tactische opdrachten?

Nee dus.
Capello: "This is not the England that I know. I didn't see any spirit of the team in this game.
"It reminds me of when I first started as England manager, I saw the same fear when we played at Wembley.
"This is incredible given the level of the England players but I think it is because the pressure of the World Cup is so big that the performance of the players was not so good.
"Yet this is the same team that more or less played most of the games in qualification for the World Cup.
"The problem is that the same players who were really good then are not good as a team at the moment.
"It's incredible, the mistakes of the players when they can't control the ball, or they miss easy passes and also when we arrived close to the box, sometimes with a possibility to shoot at goal, we decided to pass instead.' Op de bank zijn geen fouten gemaakt.
